FAQ

I need a letter of recommendation, could you help me?

The Full Professorship Financial Accounting strongly supports any activities which enable students to gain additional experience/knowledge besides lectures and seminars at the TUM School of Management. Thus, we are happy to support you if you want to apply for a semester abroad or for a scholarship. Please note that we do not issue letters of recommendation for (full-time) job applications, internships, and general letters of recommendation.

We offer two letters of recommendation:

  • Short assessment: For TUMExchange application (after internal pre-selection only), Scholarship for International Students, and  visa requirements
  • Comprehensive assessment: All other purposes.

How do I get a short assessment?

Requirement: Succesful participation in at least one course (e.g., lectures, seminars, project studies, thesis).

Please send the following information via e-mail to Isabel Hertl (isabel.hertl@tum.de):

  • CV (incl. extracurricular activities [internships, working students, volunteering etc..] if available)
  • Certificates/confirmations of the activities indicated in the CV
  • Most recent Transcript of Records

Please submit all documents at least two weeks prior to the respective deadline. After completion of the recommendation letter, we will inform you via e-mail.

How do I get a comprehensive assessment?

Requirements: To provide a meaningful letter of recommendation, we require successful participation in in at least two courses (e.g., lectures, seminars, project studies, thesis) as well as an overall average grade of at least 1.8 (!) or a convincing explanation for a (slightly) weaker grade (e.g., substantial and long-lasting volunteering).

  • Peer group grade ranking
  • For bachelor students: high-school exam/A-levels (for Germans: ‘Abitur’) certificate
  • For master students: bachelor certificate
  • Additional information: description of voluntary work, etc.
  • Purpose of the recommendation letter.

Please submit all documents (at the very latest) at least three weeks prior to the respective deadline. Depending on the purpose of the recommendation letter, we invite you to send us some important aspects that may support your application. After completion of the recommendation letter, we will inform you via e-mail.
