This project studies biased information search in innovation decisions using laboratory experiments. It examines how time pressure and debiasing interventions affect selective exposure to confirming versus conflicting information, depending on how information is presented, building on a replication of prior findings.

Why does ethical behavior fluctuate even among well-intentioned people? This project studies the psychological processes through which individuals track, evaluate, and adjust their moral conduct over time.
The project pursues three connected lines of work. The first develops formal game-theoretic models of moral balancing, showing how internal self-regulation constraints shape dishonesty in repeated strategic interactions. The second runs preregistered laboratory and online experiments that manipulate moral self-image and measure its consequences directly, testing the conditions under which past behavior triggers licensing, cleansing, or longer-term shifts in personal norms. The third develops and validates survey instruments that capture evaluative judgments about the sufficiency of sustainable behavior, a construct that current measurement approaches leave unobserved.
The practical relevance is twofold. For organizations, understanding moral self-regulation can inform the design of ethics programs, incentive systems, and sustainability initiatives that sustain desired behavior rather than triggering compensatory backsliding. For policy, it helps predict when pro-environmental and pro-ethical interventions will produce lasting behavioral change and when they risk being neutralized by the very self-regulation dynamics they engage.
