Theses
The Chair of Digital Finance offers students the opportunity to complete a final thesis within its research areas.
Students may apply for one of the thesis topics announced by the chair or propose a topic of their own. Proposed topics are evaluated individually based on whether they fit the chair’s research interests and can be supervised within the chair.
Current Thesis Topics
The available thesis topics are published on this page at the beginning of each application period.
Application Process
To apply for a thesis, please submit the following documents:
- Current transcript of records
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Research proposal, only when proposing your own thesis topic
You may apply for up to three advertised thesis topics. Please rank your selected topics according to your preference, with Priority 1 indicating your preferred topic. You may also apply for fewer than three topics. Please state the selected thesis topics and their respective priorities clearly in your application email. The stated priorities will be taken into account during the allocation process but do not guarantee assignment to a particular topic.
Please submit your application via email tomartin.spegel@tum.de.
Applications are reviewed after the relevant deadline. The prospective supervisors assess the applications for their topics and select the candidates they would like to supervise. The final assignments are then confirmed, and all applicants are informed of the decision.

Proposing Your Own Topic
Master students are welcome to propose their own Master’s thesis topic. In this case, the application must include a research proposal describing the planned research question, its relevance, and the intended approach.
Each proposal is assessed individually. Acceptance depends on its fit with the chair’s research interests and the availability of suitable supervision.
Thesis guidelines
Students writing their thesis at the Chair of Digital Finance are expected to follow the chair’s thesis guidelines. The guidelines provide information on the formal requirements, structure, supervision process, and submission of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
Please consult the thesis guidelines before starting your thesis and throughout the writing process.
