acatech-Project on Growth Financing in Germany

Prof. Achleitner and Prof. Braun were invited to head a project on how to strengthen innovation in Germany through financing ecosystems. On June 26th, 2019 the final document was uploaded on the acatech homepage (in German) and can be found here. The study gives a deep-dive into the strengths and weaknesses of the German market for growth capital and the interplay of different actors in the ecosystem for high growth companies. It offers directions for action to foster the German growth capital market and enhance that ecosystem around the crucial players.

Burkina Faso Institute of Technology

Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world. The Stern Steward Institute has been supporting the country by setting up the Lycee Schorge Secondary School in Koudougou. Star Architect and TUM Professor Francis Kéré supports the project through the architectural design of classrooms and administrative buildings. In a second step, the education will be taken to a higher level. The vision is to set up a Bachelor's program in IT & Entrepreneurship to enable young students to become Burkina's leaders of tomorrow and to build up their own businesses in their country. CEFS (under the supervision of Dr. Svenja Jarchow) supports the project and supervises two student project studies that in close cooperation with the Stern Steward Institute designed a future oriented, practical yet challenging and high-standard study program. Information on the program can be found here.

Biotech Ecosystem Germany as part of the national GO-Bio initative

The project was triggered by the notion that there is still a significant discrepancy between the outstanding scientific research in Germany and its unsatisfactory transfer into marketable products that contribute to economic value creation. Thus, CEFS performs an extensive analysis of the strength and weaknesses of the German biotech ecosystem that serves as input for future measures. Additionally, it provides practical business know-how for natural scientists to assist in the establishment of new biotech businesses and improve their chances of success. The research project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Research and Education (FMER) as part of the national GO-Bio initiative. More information can be found here.
