Jürgen Ernstberger is Full Professor for Financial Accounting at the Technical University of Munich. He has been visiting scholar/professor at the University of Toronto, the University of Graz, the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and at the Aston Business School.

Professor Ernstberger has research interests in the real effects of disclosure, audit quality, corporate social responsibility, and digitalization of accounting and auditing. His work has been published in international premier journals including The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Review of Accounting Studies, European Accounting Review, and Journal of Business Ethics. He regularly presents his research at workshops and conferences around the world.

Professor Ernstberger has received several awards including the Best Teaching Award – Executive Education and the Best Ph.D. Supervisor Award at the TUM School of Management, the Best Paper Award at the EARNet Symposium, the Best Reviewer Award and the Best Conference Paper Award from the German Academic Association of Business Research, the Best Paper Award at the American Accounting Association International Midyear Meeting, and the Best Paper Award at the European Accounting Association Annual Congress.

He serves as a member on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Accounting and the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation and is ad hoc reviewer at many journals and conferences. He was a board member at the German Academic Association of Business Research and national coordinator of Germany at the European Accounting Association.

Professor Ernstberger teaches courses at bachelor, master, Ph.D., young professional, MBA and executive level in financial accounting, auditing, and technology-enhanced accounting and auditing. At the TUM School of Management he is currently the Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and responsible for the school’s 14 academic programs and its more than 6.800 students. Prior to that he was Academic Program Director for the bachelor’s program.

Professor Ernstberger studied at the University of Regensburg and the Copenhagen Business School. He earned his doctoral degree and Habilitation at the University of Regensburg. Prior to his current position, he was Full Professor of Accounting and Auditing at the Ruhr University Bochum.
