The executive remuneration has fallen in a second year in a row. In 2019, it decreased by 0.3 percent. Although less than in 2018, were the executive remuneration plummeted by 3.5 percent.
Professor Friedl viewed the development from two perspectives. Firstly, general wages have risen closing the gap between executive salaries and gross wages. Nevertheless, the salaries of the executive management are still 49 times higher than of their employees, says Professor Friedl.
The frontrunner in 2019 was Volkswagen, with an executive remuneration that is 86 times higher than the average gross wages in the group.
New regulations for the executive remuneration intend to reward employee satisfaction, sustainable and long-term strategies. In addition, the groups are required to disclose their reasons for the level of executive board salaries.
